Architecture for Humanity has partnered with Magic Bus to improve the infrastructure at 3 to 6 centers that will facilitate community oriented sports programs in under privileged neighborhoods of Delhi. The developed sports/play fields and supporting infrastructure will help inculcate a sporting culture among children and youth in the community and help Magic Bus use its unique Sports for Development (S4D) curriculum to provide access to sport and every childs right to: play; education; gender inclusion; health care. This will help harness and groom new talents, renew enthusiasm among youth for physical fitness along with imparting skills to promote community integration and welfare of destitute/delinquents and other marginalized youth, by using, successfully proven, Magic Bus S4D programming.
The actual infrastructure development work will range from renovating buildings to use as training halls, locker rooms, etc. Besides these, toilet blocks, drinking water facilities and improving existing playfields are the other areas of work. The play spaces we develop under the project will cater to +/-3,000 children.
Magic Bus focuses on high quality programming through the sports for development paradigm, starting from propagating the right to play, evolving to bringing about personal and social development and working towards community empowerment. To date, they have worked with over 150,000 children living in some of the most at-risk and marginalised circumstances. Magic Bus employs nearly 350 staff operating in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Delhi and in rural districts in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. Over a proud eleven-year journey, Magic Bus has built a strong track record, which has been acknowledged by communities, development organisations, governments, policy makers and politicians worldwide. In 2003, Magic Bus received the World Bank Developmental Marketplace Award for ‘Mentoring at-risk children.’ Other awards include the Voices for Children ‘Humanitarian of the Year 2004’ and Global Fund for Children Sustainability Award 2005.
