About the Design Fellowship program

‘You go through the process and at some point you start earning each other’s respect. It’s very rewarding.’—Purnima McCutcheon, Design Fellow.

A design fellowship with Architecture for Humanity is a chance to gain new experiences while honing your design skills. Architecture for Humanity offers unique opportunities for a design fellowship. Opportunities, when available, vary from project to project and fellows are matched to projects according to their skills.
Past fellows have told us that Architecture for Humanity’s design fellowship program was a life changing experience. As a design fellow you will:

  • spend time working directly with a community group on a specific project for an extended period of time
  • immerse in a culture that may be different to your own
  • gain valuable local and international experience in developing projects from idea through implementation

These positions usually last from six months to a year depending on the project. Design fellows volunteer their time, whenever possible the position includes reimbursement for travel and other out of pocket expenses. When grant funds are available, in some cases fellows receive a stipend to cover cost-of-living expenses.

All design fellowship opportunities will be posted under design opportunities as they become available.
